If you have visited the UK Google store in the last couple of days you may have noticed a mysterious “one-day event” advertised for Sunday 27th September.
The event is a 24 hour flash sale, in celebration of the company’s 22nd birthday, that knocks 22% off of selected devices. Big name devices like the Nest Hello video doorbell and Nest Hub Max are included in the deal.

Buyers can also pick up discounts on the Nest Cam IQ indoor and outdoor security cameras, the Nest Learning Thermostat and Stadia Premiere Edition. To get the discount, buyers have to enter ““GOOGLEBDAY22” at the checkout.
But there’s bad news for deal-hunters hoping to pick up a cheap Pixel phone, Google tells me the Pixel 4a, Pixel Buds and Pixelbook Go aren’t on sale.
Google isn’t shy about the discounts, it has slashed prices for its latest flagship Pixel phones on the last three Black Friday sales periods. It also intermittently discounts its Pixel phones throughout the year. But this sale event is one of the company’s largest.

The sale comes days before the search company unveils its next Pixel phone. Google has already announced that the Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a 5G are coming, but the exact specification details are yet to be shared. Both handsets are expected to house Qualcomm’s upper mid-range Snapdragon 765G chipset, marking the first time in a few years that Google hasn’t used a top-of-the-line processor for its flagship phone.
Elsewhere the Pixel 5 is rumoured to sport a larger 4080mAh battery and an ultra-wide lens, also a new addition for a Pixel phone. The Pixel 4a 5G will add a performance boost and display size increase in comparison its cheaper sibling, the Pixel 4a, which released last month. It will be interesting see how Google prices the two new phones now that both are facing serious competition from the new Samsung Galaxy S20 FE.
